The Grind GastroPub & Kona Tiki Bar is one of my favorite places to go in Daytona Beach's sister city, Ormond Beach. Ormond Beach and Daytona Beach sit directly next to each other, and you probably wouldn't know the difference between the two. This restaurant is located in the heart of Ormond Beach, directly on one of the gateways to the beach, Granada Boulevard (SR 40).

The Grind is unique in the area because of its very large Tiki Bar that sits behind the restaurant. When entering from the back parking lot (see "Parking" below), you can either:

a) Go left. From here, you can sit in the lower area of the Tiki Bar area outside near where a band might be playing, or you can continue inside to The Grind restaurant (air conditioning).

Or:

b) Go right and follow the decked pathway up to the raised Tiki Bar dining area outside. This is an open area, but it's mostly protected from a roof overhead.

One side of this deck is a long bar, and the rest is seating. I noticed there is plenty of room for navigating, and ample seating options for wheelchairs. Honestly, I had no trouble getting to my seat where there was a great view of the crowd and the band. The entire Tiki Bar has a very authentic Hawaiian look to it, with carved Tiki heads all over the place. It has a fantastic energy and I love it!

The menu has an unbelievably versatile selection of food to choose from, and the three of us (wife, son, me) each got something different. Being a family, we don't mind sharing a bite or two with each other to see what other dishes taste like.

I ordered the One Love (Basmati Rice Bowl). It has curried tender chunks of chicken with mixed vegetables in a bowl of basmati rice. My wife ordered the classic Midnight Riders (Shrimp & Grits), blackened shrimp with andouille sausage, red & yellow bell peppers & white cheddar grits with a green chile cream sauce. And my son ordered the Lose Yourself (Lobster Mac & Cheese), fresh Maine lobster, velvety manchego & béchamel tossed with elbow macaroni.  All three meals were incredibly delicious, and our two craft draft beers and one soda didn't disappoint either.

There were other extremely tempting dishes on the menu including a bison burger, filet mignon, lamb, pulled pork, salmon, and chicken. They also have 11 different kinds of pizza to choose from. This diverse menu truly has something for everyone.

When we were finished, we left very satisfied! The bill was reasonable, the food was delicious, we enjoyed a variety of good music (some young guy and his guitar,) and the service was timely and efficient. What else can I say?

I have been here before where I ate inside at The Grind, and I really enjoyed that experience there as well.

Parking

Parking for The Grind is located behind the restaurant, accessed by a road (New Britain Ave.) parallel to Granada one block north.

To get there, you can turn off Granada onto the first road east of the restaurant (Beach St.), and then turn left onto New Britain Ave. Or you can turn off Granada onto the first road west of the restaurant (N. Ridgewood Ave.), and then turn right onto New Britain Ave.

Once you get to the restaurant in the back, you'll find valet parking that will help you find a good spot for you to park, or they will park your car for you. Make sure you let them know which restaurant you want to visit, because there are several restaurants there together in a row. I have actually entered the wrong restaurant before!

***I would not suggest parking in front of The Grind unless you are exiting your vehicle on the passenger side. Granada Boulevard is a very busy, fast-paced road. Also, the sidewalk in the front is slanted toward the street and can be difficult for a wheelchair.
