There is a magical place in Daytona Beach called The Roof, and it sits high above Joe’s Crab Shack over the ocean. Located on the Main St Pier in Daytona Beach, this outdoor rooftop bar offers what no other place in the area can: a breathtaking 360° view of Daytona Beach, accented with the never-ending sounds of waves crashing in the ocean below.

The Roof is located right in the middle of the Main St Pier, which is located at the south end of the Daytona Beach Boardwalk and at the east end of Main Street. It's open from 11 a.m. to midnight daily, and it's pretty easy to get to. Handicap parking is available at a nearby park, Breakers Beachfront Park, just yards away from the pier. If no spots are available, there's always the parking garage across Atlantic Avenue (A1A).

Even though the pier sits 10 feet or more above the boardwalk, there is a really nice, large, gently-sloping path that will take you up onto the pier. The pier will lead you to Joe's Crab Shack, and as soon as you are inside, you'll see the elevators that will ride you up to The Roof. Easy, easy, easy.

The Roof is a spacey open deck with a floor made of concrete and tile that makes wheelchair accessibility a breeze. There are a couple of bars up there with tall chairs, along with tall and shorter tables spaced around. Navigation is easy. One of the nicest features of The Roof is the fire pit. It doesn't burn wood, so there's no smoke. It burns gas cleanly, and the flames rise up through rocks. If it's cool out, you can roll right up to the edge of the pit and enjoy its warmth. If it's not that chilly, the pit offers a romantic glow that adds to The Roof's unique ambiance, especially during sunset.

On The Roof, you and your friends can order something good to eat from a smaller menu of sandwiches, seafood, appetizers, and more. The coconut shrimp is incredible! There are often drink specials, and it seems like there is always something going on like an event or sports party, or a holiday celebration. If there are fireworks going on, you won't find a better view than up on The Roof (Isn't that a song?). The staff is friendly, the food is delicious, and nowhere else in the area can offer a view like the one you'll find here. Oh yeah, while you're up there, be sure to order a specialty drink called the Shark Attack! If the incredible view doesn't bring you back, this drink will!

The Roof has a weekday happy hour between 4:30-6:30 PM, and they often have some sort of live music. It's a perfect spot to listen to some music while looking out over the ocean and the pier fishing. Or you can face the other way and check out the city view of Daytona Beach and the busy boardwalk below. The Roof is large enough that you'll probably find some privacy if you want it, and if you're lucky, you might even catch some of the staff doing a little dancing!

When you're in the area, do yourself a favor and visit The Roof. Bring your camera, and get ready for a fun and relaxing day or evening. Have a good time!
