On my birthday, my wife decided to take me to Joe's Crab Shack for some good hot seafood along with a couple of cold draft beers. Joe's is perfectly located on the Main Street Pier at the South end of the Daytona Beach Boardwalk. There is a nearby park, Breakers Beachfront Park, yards away from the pier where you'll find some good handicap parking. If not, there's always the parking garage across Atlantic Avenue (A1A).

If you have to park in the garage, you'll probably ride an elevator and cross the street at a light. Or you could go to the second floor of the garage and cross over the traffic on the crosswalk high above the traffic. This will take you to the Ocean Walk Shoppes where you will catch an oversized elevator that takes you to the ground floor where the Boardwalk is.

If you can find the Main Street Pier, you can find Joe's Crab Shack. Where there used to be only steps, a solid, concrete, gently-sloping ramp now allows wheelchairs to easily get on the pier. As we rolled down the pier, we had a beautiful, panoramic view of Daytona Beach from the water. Picture Time! My wife held the door open, and I immediately noticed there was ample seating for wheelchairs. The building is pretty big and roomy, and I felt welcomed.

On this particular warm, balmy December day, we chose a table outside the building overlooking the water. It was super sunny, and not too hot. There is nothing better than eating seafood outside, just above the crashing waves of the ocean.

Joe's offers crab cooked and seasoned a gazillion different ways, along with shrimp, fish, scallops, clams and everything else you can think of that comes out of the sea. Whatever combination we picked, I remember it was a bucket of seafood deliciousness. Joe's does it right! The staff is attentive, there is plenty of room, and the food there is fantastic!

After our early dinner, my wife and I took a stroll down to the North end of the Boardwalk and back before driving home. The Boardwalk is huge, clean, beautiful, and easy to navigate, even when crowded. I'm already looking forward to my next visit to Joe's Crab Shack. We had a great time, and so will you.
