Summer will soon be in full swing — have you planned your vacation?

Often, the pressure of planning something special or unforgettable for the whole family can be stressful. Other times, we feel we are just too busy to get away.  Research supports that taking a vacation is good for our health, relationships and overall well-being.But, the effort of planning a trip far in advance is often what holds us back from taking the vacation. It can seem like a big commitment — maybe one we can’t make too far ahead of time. Luckily, Daytona Beach makes it easy and effortless to go for a fun weekend escape — even if you plan at the last minute!

Whether you want to gather the girls for a getaway, go for a golf trip, take the family for all kinds of new adventures, or just need some sun and sand between your toes ASAP — Daytona Beach is your answer. Still need convincing? Here are four reasons why you should start planning for a quick weekend getaway in Daytona Beach soon:

1)  It’s Easy to Get to

Aerial view of International Speedway Boulevard BridgeFor those residing within a drivable distance of Daytona Beach, such as in Atlanta, Miami or Orlando, the car ride to Daytona Beach is scenic and easy. Located just off of I-95 and I-4, the proximity of Daytona Beach makes driving to and from your getaway relatively painless.

From Atlanta, the drive takes about six hours — short enough to leave on a Friday morning and still enjoy a full weekend of fun! Or, a non-stop flight from Atlanta to Daytona Beach International Airport will typically put you there in less than an hour and a half. If you live in Miami and want to escape the city for a bit — or need a fun place to stay as you make your way farther north — Daytona Beach is a straight shot up on I-95 a mere 4-hour drive away.

And, the drive from Orlando takes about an hour on I-4. Whether you’re a full-time Orlando resident looking for a quick beach weekend or you’re already planning a trip to Orlando and want to allow for some beach time, too, Daytona Beach is just a hop, skip and a jump away.

2) Oceanfront Accommodations are Readily Available

With more than 200 properties and a combined 12,000 rooms, there is no shortage of accommodation options in the Daytona Beach area which stretches along the coast from Ormond Beach south to Daytona Beach Shores and Ponce Inlet. Because of the sheer number of choices available, it’s typically no problem to get an oceanfront hotel room at the last minute. Luxuriate in the beachfront breeze rolling off the water in your room — all without having to do a lot of research and legwork!

In-suite kitchenettes often make family travel more affordable, and there is also an array of condos and bed and breakfasts from which to choose. Depending on the size of your group, a vacation rental may best suit your plans. In Daytona Beach, there are tons of places to stay with waterfront views, resort-style pools and complimentary breakfasts — and all at a great price, too!

3) You Don’t Have to Book Entertainment Months in Advance

Daytona Beach boasts some of the state’s greatest attractions, like Daytona International Speedway, Ponce Inlet Lighthouse and 23 miles of beaches — just to name a few. Despite these fantastic and family-friendly options, there is a distinct feeling of “elbow room” in the city. You don’t feel like you’re on top of one another, parking throughout the city is relatively easy and accessible, and you won’t have to battle for an unobstructed view of the ocean. And unlike many amusement parks, you won’t spend more time waiting in lines in Daytona Beach than you do actually enjoying the ride.

With the exception of major annual events like the DAYTONA 500, it’s usually fairly easy to find last-minute tickets or admission to entertainment or activities. Decide on a whim whether you’d like to visit the Smithsonian-affiliated Museum of Arts & Sciences or hit Screamer’s Park for the ultimate adrenaline rush. Eliminate overburdened itineraries, and let the weekend simply fall into place!

4) There’s Something for Everyone

Send part of the group out for a shopping trip at Tanger Outlets Daytona Beach as others head to the Marine Science Center to learn a little bit about local ecology. If your vacation crew is over 21, hit the Daytona Beach Ale Trail to get a taste of the area. Or, take the family fishing at the pier. No need to plan and pack your own gear — it’s all available to rent right there on-site.
