3 Top Summer Attractions Beyond the Beach

Posted on Friday, July 27, 2018 10:00 AM by Daytona Beach Area CVB

Daytona Beach is the happy host of thousands of families each and every summer, and it offers a list of fun activities that runs as deep and wide as our beaches. From visiting Daytona International Speedway to fishing off of the pier, there’s no end to the unique attractions and fun adventures waiting to be had here.

Besides Daytona Beach’s famous speedway and deep, expansive beaches, one of the city’s most iconic landmarks is the Daytona Beach Pier. The original pier constructed here was built entirely out of palm logs around the turn of the 20th century. It extended 600 feet into the ocean, but sadly burned down in 1920 in a devastating fire. A few years later, the remains were sold and the pier was rebuilt.

A visit to Daytona Beach is sure to be filled with fun entertainment like family water parks, fast cars and Smithsonian-affiliated museums — but did you know that adventure can come naturally here, too?

With 23 miles of expansive beaches and a lengthy list of family-friendly attractions catering to a broad spectrum of ages and interests, Daytona Beach is a destination that nearly any visitor can get excited about. Throw in the area’s wide-ranging accommodations and abundance of flexible and creative event venues, and it’s the perfect spot for your next celebration or gathering — whether you’re looking to get engaged, tie the knot, mark an anniversary, reunite the family, stage a company retreat, host a business convention or just plain throw a party.

For those who have always aspired to ride an ocean wave (and maybe even hang 10) on a surfboard, Florida’s eastern coast — with its subtropical climate and typically approachable wave sizes on the Atlantic Ocean — offers a great place to get started. And with 23 miles of expansive beaches, ride-able wave swells over a soft, shallow sandbar, and plenty of local surf shops that rent boards and offer lessons, Daytona Beach in particular is the perfect place to learn to surf.
