Daytona Beach is full of outstanding courses, and Halifax Plantation Golf Club is among the best.

An 18-hole, full service club, Halifax is also home to tennis courts, a swimming pool, a fitness center and trails for biking, but it’s the Bill Amick-designed layout that attracts golfers from across the country.

Playing through centuries-old oak trees, a pine forest and natural vegetation, Amick took full advantage of nature’s gifts in designing Halifax Plantation. There isn’t an abundance of water and the fairway are generous, giving players the opportunity to swing away off the tee.

The most significant challenge at Halifax Plantation are the large, undulating greens. Golfers must hit the proper spots to score well, and that typically means being below the hole, leaving an uphill putt.

On a layout devoid of parallel fairways, one of Halifax Plantation’s greatest attributes is its playability. The course stretches to just over 7,100 yards from the tips, but the white tees play 6,215 yards with a player-friendly slope and rating of 69.7 and 124.

The most challenging stretch comes in the middle of the back nine. The par 3, 13th hole is surrounded on both sides by water from tee to green, and the 155-yard tee shot is the round’s most sweat-inducing shot.

But the day’s biggest challenge awaits on No. 14. The dogleg left plays a brawny 447 yards and is tree-lined from tee to green. Halifax Plantation has a well-deserved reputation for playability, but players need to be at their best on this two-hole stretch.

A 4.5-star course, Halifax Plantation is in Ormond Beach, a short drive from the heart and the good times of Daytona Beach.

If your group has interest in playing Halifax Plantation, the course is featured in many packages, including the Drive For Show deal, a 3-night, 3-round offer that starts at $253 and includes luxury accommodation at Hyatt Place Daytona Beach and additional rounds at LPGA International and Venetian.
