There is a brand-new liquor distillery in town you must visit. Nestled in Holly Hill, right in the middle of the greater Daytona Beach area, you'll find the Copper Bottom Craft Distillery. They specialize in rum, but they also make vodka with the potential of more spirits in the future.

Copper Bottom is owned by Mark and Joanne Craig, and it is operated by Jeremy and Jenni Craig. The latter two were there when I went for my free one-hour tour of the distillery.

The building used to be home to a carwash and laundromat, and was cleared out and adapted to become Volusia County's first licensed craft distillery. From what I can tell, people are thrilled about its opening.

When I went to their website, CopperBottomSpirits.com, I saw that you could sign up for a tour on the website. When I arrived on a Saturday afternoon, they were waiting on me with open arms. The parking lot has plenty of handicap parking, and there is a brand-new concrete ramp at the front door. I was touring the establishment with my lovely mother-in-law, and she held the door while I went in.

Remember: park in the lot on the south side of the building closest to Mason Avenue. Otherwise, you'll be on the wrong side of the building where there is no entrance.

Once inside, I noticed that the building is large and roomy, and I had no trouble navigating anywhere for the tour. Jeremy Craig introduced himself, his wife Jenni, and their new baby before taking me on the tour. I quickly realized Jeremy is the real deal, super nice, and extremely knowledgeable. He explained all the huge stainless steel and copper vats, and how they work. It is comfortable in the building, and there is much necessary ventilation. Don't worry, there were no fumes at all.

The whole tour took about 45 minutes, and it probably would have been quicker had I not asked so many questions. To me, the whole process was absolutely fascinating and currently ranks as my number one tour I have done for this website.

After Jeremy's tour, he led us to the tasting room. There, Jenni gave us each a 1/2 shot of rum from their very first batch. It was honestly the smoothest rum I have ever put in my mouth. After that, she gave us a sample of some rum punch that was, again, the best I had ever had. My mother-in-law and I each gladly purchased a bottle.

While Jenni was serving us our delicious samples, Jeremy said goodbye and began another tour. If you like, there are T-shirts and other memorabilia available for purchase.

I completely recommend the Copper Bottom Craft Distillery as a destination you must visit. If you're in a wheelchair, this place is very accessible. In my opinion, they will be around for a very long time, and it was fun to taste from the very first batch of rum produced there. Enjoy!
