Motorsports Trail

Racing fans start your engines and prepare to explore Daytona Beach’s deep-rooted motorsports heritage! Our Motorsports Trail takes you on a Daytona Beach area tour from scenic beachfronts to museums, guiding you through the history of racing, beginning with a stop at Birthplace of Speed Park in Ormond Beach where the first automobile race was held in 1903.

Just a few minutes south in Daytona Beach is the “World Center of Racing” – Daytona International Speedway. This storied superspeedway is open daily for tours and includes a visit to the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America which celebrates all forms of motorsports, from stock cars and sports cars to motorcycles and powerboating and more.

The museum featured on this trail are also invaluable sources of auto racing history. The Racing Zone permanent exhibit at the Halifax Historical Museum pays tribute to the early days of auto racing and its pioneers.

Motorcycles have been a part of the area’s racing history just as long as autos. In fact, an Indian motorcycle also participated in the area’s first automobile race back in 1903. In recognition, the trail features stops highlighting motorcycling in the area, including Teddy Morse's Daytona Harley-Davidson and the Daytona 200 Monument located on the Daytona Beach Boardwalk.

No motorsports history tour of the area would be complete without a visit to picturesque Ponce Inlet to the sites of the original North Turn and South Turn of the old beach road course. The legendary, NASCAR-sanctioned course was used for auto and motorcycle racing from 1948-1960.

Along the way, you’ll find the trail is peppered with restaurants and nighttime entertainment spots that are relevant to motorsports history in the area, including the historic Ormond Garage, Main Street Station, Racing’s North Turn Beach Bar and Grill and the Streamline Hotel – recognized as the birthplace of NASCAR.

So, what are you waiting, for? Start your engine and explore!
