Volusia County Wednesday Farmers Market is one of the largest and longest-running farm markets in Volusia County in Florida. The market has a both local produce and produce grown elsewhere to give shoppers more variety. Vendors are knowledgeable and happy to answer questions on everything from how to cook their produce to where it’s grown.

“The Farmers Market provides an outlet for those who sell and a source for buyers to get fresh produce at below grocery store prices,” said Bill Hester, executive director of the Volusia County Farm Bureau.

Market History

Hester opened the market in 1975. At the time, he served as president of the Volusia County Farm Bureau’s board of directors. The Volusia County Farm Bureau board agreed that having a central location for agriculture producers and others to present their merchandise to the growing population of Volusia County was a good idea.

The market opened on 18 acres inside the Volusia County Fairgrounds. As word got out that the market was a place to purchase fresh produce at bargain prices, it took off in popularity. It’s a place where families can come and enjoy breakfast at a picnic table and then shop for vegetables, plants, baked goods, honey, jam, and other food items. Sorry, but no pets are allowed in the market except for service animals.

Vendors also sell…well, everything under the sun. At both indoor and outdoor booths, shoppers can find musical instruments, glassware, pots and pans, pet items, jewelry, handbags, fishing gear, cosmetics, tools, small livestock and more.

Most vendors accept cash only. An ATM machine is available on site near the fair office. The Wednesday Farmers Market is located at 3050 E. New York Ave., DeLand, Florida 32724. It’s open from 7 a.m. to noon Admission and parking are both free. Please call Bill Hester at 386-734-1612 for more information.
