About

Have you ever wondered how people lived in a world before electricity, cell phones, and all the other modern conveniences that we have in today?

As part of Volusia County Library Oceans of Possibilities summer programming, the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse and Museum is proud to bring children a special program focused on historical artifacts from over 100 years ago.

This all-ages workshop focuses on historical artifacts, allowing children to gain an appreciate and understand of preserved antiques, as well as draw comparisons among technologies and lifestyles from the turn of the century and today. Volunteer docents will present a brief explanation of what an artifact is, the process of archeology, as well as the connection to the field of history. Students will then have the ability to get up close and personal with historical artifacts, learning their origins and how technology has progressed over the past 150 years.

This one-day only program is brought to the people of Volusia County free of charge thanks in part to the Volusia County Library System and the Ponce De Leon Lighthouse Preservation Association Programs Department.

For more information, please contact education@ponceinlet.org or Ponce Inlet Lighthouse Programs Manager Zach Hopple at (386)761-1821 ext. 18.
