Florida Humanities Speaker Series - Blanche Ames: Artist, Activist, Inventor

Join Anderson Price Memorial as Charley DuToit, retired biologist for the Tomoka Basin State Parks, shares the life of Ormond Beach’s Blanche Ames (1878-1969).

Remembered for superb drawings of orchids collected with her husband, botanist Oakes Ames, she also expressed belief in women’s equality through her art, words and actions.

She published political cartoons for suffrage, authored a biography of her father, Gen. Adelbert Ames of Ormond Beach, and patented a variety of inventions.
