“Cyanotype Prints: Images in Blue and Beyond the Blue” 2-Day Workshop with Kathleen Warren

Visit Website Email
About

Students will create cyanotype prints using their own personal digital images then explore creative modifications to the original prints in blue. We’ll discuss the process, applications, and versatility of this 1800’s process as adapted to the 21st century. Students can submit up to three of their personal digital images ahead of the workshop; the instructor will make transparency negatives of these for the workshop. We’ll use the cyanotype process to make 5x7 and 8x10 blue-and-white archival prints which will be used on the second day for modifications and enhancements. Some prints will be bleached, then the entire print toned with natural substances such as coffee or black tea. Students will also get to experiment with selectively toning only parts of the print, including different natural substances used on different areas, and to explore subtle use of watercolor paints on selected areas. Since the workshop will produce archival prints suitable for display, we will further explore ways to present the dry cyanotype prints. For this workshop, aprons (supplied by the student) are strongly recommended, and exposure of prints the first day will be done outside the building. Vist the Art League website to register.
