Grab the kiddos and head on out this fall for Port Orange Family Days! It’s a fun community event that has grown from 15,000 attendees in its debut year in 1995 to nearly 60,000 last October. Businesses, local organizations and a range of food vendors come together in full force to put on a memorable event that people of all ages will enjoy. This year, the annual fall fest will take place October 4-7, 2018.
Each day features a range of live entertainment, dining events and family-friendly activities. It all begins on Thursday evening with a car show, a food truck rally and the official carnival opening. The carnival company this year is S&T Magic Midways, which provides over 20 rides to enjoy. Brace yourself in the bumper cars, zip through the crowd on a giant slide, or see the Daytona Beach region from a new perspective from atop the Ferris wheel. There are plenty of kid-appropriate rides that are relatively mild, as well as spectacular sensory rides for those seeking a little more adrenaline. Plus, try your hand at classic arcade games — you may just win a stuffed prize to take home as a souvenir of your family fun day.
Although the fest lasts for a full four days, the fun really heats up on Saturday and Sunday. A big parade featuring a local high school marching band will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday. And, you can even meet famous mascots like Shelldon, the Daytona Tortugas turtle, at the Mascot Breakfast. Following that, peruse the 300 booths featuring arts, handmade goods, businesses, churches and restaurants. Group games will take place, and there’s an entire area dedicated to the kids. Of course, festival staples like face painting, a petting zoo and dance performances will all be offered again this year. Or, head to the adults area — AKA the beer garden — where you can sip and savor local brews. And you won’t want to miss the event’s entertainment climax: a live concert by an outstanding Billy Joel tribute band.
Port Orange Family Days is the ideal destination for drinking a cold beer, listening to live music and entertaining the kids with endless fun. The best part? It won’t cost you much. Admission and parking are totally free for the event — all you’ll have to pay for are food and beverage purchases, as well as the carnival rides. In fact, you can get a Carnival Mega Pass, which is good for unlimited rides, for just $18 per day. All proceeds are directed right back into the community to various food banks, schools and other nonprofit organizations. It’s an entertaining, low-cost way to spend a day and support the local community.
All the action takes place at Port Orange City Center, located at 1000 City Center Circle. We’ll see you there!
