WHAT: DeLand Pride Block Party
WHEN: October 20, 2018, from 2 to 7 p.m.
WHERE: Indiana Avenue in Downtown DeLand

Initially created in the aftermath of the tragic Orlando shooting at the Pulse nightclub, DeLand Pride was founded by the parents of a teenager who lost many personal friends in the tragedy. With this initiative, the family and the region are able to show their acceptance and support of the local LGBTQA community.

Now in its third year, the group has been able to foster even more support throughout the region. DeLand Pride hosts monthly pride nights with various themes, typically every third Saturday of the month at Abbey Bar. There are also First Thursday Socials from 6 to 8 p.m. where all are welcome.

This year, the group’s activities culminate at the 3rd Annual DeLand Pride Block Party October 20 — a celebration of LGBT History Month and National Coming Out Day. The event is quite a popular festival; in its first year, attendance surpassed the initial estimate of 250 attendees by a long shot — over 750 people showed up to celebrate!

Since then, the annual Block Party has evolved into a much larger festival with a new location and a wide range of entertainment events. This year, look for community outreach from a variety of nonprofits, health and counseling services, and many other vendors and entertainment. There will also be boutique crafts, jewelry and so much more in the community marketplace. Plus, there will be live performances from well-known entertainers, with live music acts as well.

Of course, there will be plenty of food and drink vendors to keep the party sustained, and there are a handful of local breweries nearby partaking in the fun.

No small affair, the event will take over the entire western block of Indiana Avenue in Downtown DeLand.

Mark your calendars and make plans now to attend the DeLand Pride Block Party! Find the perfect place to stay during your visit — from oceanfront condos to 4-star hotels, Daytona Beach has something perfectly suited to you.
