9 Ways to Take the Adventures Indoors in Daytona Beach

Posted on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 9:00 AM by Daytona Beach Area CVB

Daytona Beach may be best known for its 23 miles of white-sand beaches and endless waterfront adventures, but it certainly offers its fair share of indoor activities, too. The Florida sunshine prevails most days of the year, but the occasional rain showers have been known to happen. When they do, fear not — your family still has lots of entertainment options.

Year-round events, gatherings and happenings bring the Daytona Beach area’s diversity to life. Known as the "Festival Capital of Florida," Daytona Beach hosts more than 60 fun, unique events and festivals from January through December.

From stock cars and sunshine to sugar cane mills, Daytona Beach has a deep and colorful history — and it’s all waiting for you to explore. Although there are a variety of museums and guided tours throughout the area, one way to experience Daytona Beach’s rich history and culture is to hop in the car and drive! If you have a full day to spend on your excursion, consider following the five-stop route below. Of course, depending on the day or season, you may want to add to or omit a destination on this list.

One of the best things about a fall getaway by the beach is that the whole place feels serene and refreshed — as if the beach has come up for air after a summer of surfboards, sandy strolls and splashing. A couple things unique to Daytona Beach are its wide, expansive beaches and its fun downtown area, each of which tend to stay uncrowded all year long. Visitors don’t have to feel like they’re in a crowd everywhere they turn, because there’s plenty of elbow room for all!

On a quiet, winding road lined with large oak trees and old-fashioned lampposts, DeBary Hall Historic Site is alive with history. Perched up on a hill, the house seems to appear from out of nowhere — and that’s not the only thing that is here and gone in a flash. Reports of paranormal activity on this historic estate have incited a fair amount of curiosity over the years, and this year may be the one when you get some more answers.

Celebrate the Jazz Age at the Museum of Arts & Sciences

Many years ago, when this whole jazz thing was new, someone asked the great jazz trumpeter Louis Armstrong, “What is jazz?” He famously answered, “If you gotta ask, you’ll never know.”

These days, we know plenty about jazz, and this year’s Passport to the Jazz Age — the eighth annual fundraiser for Daytona Beach’s Museum of Arts and Sciences — brings it all home.
