DeBary Golf & Country Club

DeBary Golf Club was designed by Lloyd Clifton in 1990. One of the area’s best layouts, DeBary Golf Club, a U.S. Open Qualifying site, is an ideal venue for traveling golfers, combining the quality of Lloyd Clifton’s work with outstanding conditions. DeBary is a non-traditional design, with limited water and a natural elevation change that is rare to the area. Built on property that was once home to an orange grove, the course features tree-lined and undulating fairways that create uneven lies that are more common in the Carolinas than the Sunshine State. The key to success at DeBary is the tee shot, as it’s vital to find the short grass. The live oak trees that line many of the course’s fairways are beautiful, but trying to play from between them makes for a challenging day. The 15th hole, a narrow par 4, perfectly encapsulates the experience. The view of the moss draped oaks is beautiful but golfers have to hit the fairway on the 340-yard (white tees) challenge. The only body of water, a lake, comes into play on the 9th and 18th holes, which also showcase elevation change. Playing 401 yards from the white tees with water up the right side, No. 18 is a daunting finish. DeBary is renowned for the quality of its TifEagle greens, which were installed as part of a 2016 renovation project that ensured the course will remain among Central Florida’s best.
