Gamble Place
Take a self-guided tour and enjoy learning about old Florida pioneer history while visiting Gamble Place, on the National Register of Historic Places. Once the winter home of James N. Gamble, of the Procter and Gamble Company, Gamble Place is adjacent to Cracker Creek, and is surrounded by an associated 175-acre nature preserve that features a historic home, cottage, and Citrus Packing House. The "Florida cracker-style" house, named "Egwanulti" (a Native American word meaning "by the water"), was built in 1907 and was used as a winter retreat. The once privately-owned Citrus Packing House is the only one currently in existence in its original location in Florida. This vanishing piece of history is significant to Florida and our visitors.

Cracker Creek

While there, enjoy the recreational opportunities afforded by the National Geographic Featured GeoTourism Site, Cracker Creek, an environmental and historical treasure. Located on the western side of scenic Spruce Creek, this 20 acre sanctuary is a natural home for a variety of endangered plants and animals that can be seen by boat or on foot. Cracker Creek is a pure nature preserve and is perfect for many recreational activities such as boating, bird watching, canoeing, kayaking, and hiking.

Tour dates and times are subject to change, so it is recommended that you call ahead for a reservation, 386-304-0778.
