The Ormond Memorial Art Museum & Gardens is presenting a series
of educational classes and workshops to accompany the exhibit of
German Expressionist works reproduced by Robert Young, M.D. The
original 1934 Karl Hofer, Nach Dem Bad, 'After the Bath'
will be on display at the museum. German Expressionism is
recognized as some of the earliest demonstrated abstract work
associated with modern art. The Experience compiles a series of
studies of significant works which are most associated with the
movement. In an effort to demonstrate the departure from the
staid realism of pre-war Germany and move beyond the confines of
representational style, this group, included Munch, Kandinsky,
Klee, and Jawlensky. Their work was considered morally decadent by
those in power. Many works were publicly destroyed or sold to
finance the war effort.
Accompanying this educational exhibition, collector Rolf Gardey
will provide opening remarks on Friday, October 16th at 7:00 pm.
Further discussion of the significance of these German artists will
be addressed by Rolf Gardey in a mini-lecture on Tuesday, October
27th; 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. For more information on the following
